    Tours

The planning committee and local arrangements committee have developed a variety of interesting tours for Montreal ’08 meeting attendees.  We encourage you to participate in one of the tours.  Tours are included full meeting registrations for both professionals and students and one-day registrants and guests will pay a $50 tour fee.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada-Horticulture Research and Development Centre

The Horticulture Research and Development Centre is one of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's network of 20 research centres. Located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, the Centre's mandate is to conduct research in the areas of crop breeding, sustainable production, pest management and preserving the quality of crops after harvesting. Scientists specialize in market garden crops, tree fruits, berries and ornamentals. This tour will provide an overview of the research center in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and of the research plots located at the nearby L’Acadie research farm.

  McGill University-MacDonald Campus

The Macdonald Campus of McGill University, which occupies 650 hectares in a beautiful waterfront setting on the western tip of the island of Montreal, is home to McGill’s Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.  This family friendly tour will take a look at McGill facilities on campus such as the Morgan Arboreteum (Canada’s largest), the Lods Agronomy Research Centre (Seed Farm) and the Ecomuseum. Participants in this tour will have a chance to relax in this gorgeous setting while enjoying an outdoor\ lunch (weather permitting) and a poster presentation session of current research projects taking place on campus.

Montreal Botanical Garden

With its outstanding collection of 22,000 plant species and cultivars, 10 exhibition greenhouses, some thirty thematic gardens, and teams of researchers and activities staff, the Montréal Botanical Garden ranks as one of the world's largest and most spectacular botanical gardens. This Montreal institution is 180 acres, houses 10 exhibition greenhouses and over 30 outdoor gardens abound with the colors and fragrances of the world. The Chinese and Japanese Gardens offer exotic landscapes, whereas the Tree House displays Québec's abundant forest wealth. In the First Nations Garden, you can discover the relationship that 10 Amerindian nations and Inuit nation of Québec have always maintained with the world of plants.

Behind the Scenes of the Montreal Botanical Garden: visit of the inner workings of the Montreal Botanical Gardens (spaces are limited: selection will be confirmed). This tour will include a visit of the research area of the botanical gardens and introduction to the research being carried out.
